Chapter 20

1 And David1732 fled1272 from Naioth4480 5121 in Ramah,7414 and came935 and said559 before6440 Jonathan,3083 What4100 have I done?6213 what4100 is mine iniquity?5771 and what4100 is my sin2403 before6440 thy father,1 that3588 he seeketh1245 853 my life?5315

2 And he said559 unto him, God forbid;2486 thou shalt not3808 die:4191 behold,2009 my father1 will do6213 nothing3808 1697 either great1419 or176 small,6996 but that he will show3808 1540 it853 me:241 and why4069 should my father1 hide5641 853 this2088 thing1697 from4480 me? it2063 is not369 so.

3 And David1732 swore7650 moreover,5750 and said,559 Thy father1 certainly knoweth3045 3045 that3588 I have found4672 grace2580 in thine eyes;5869 and he saith,559 Let not408 Jonathan3083 know3045 this,2063 lest6435 he be grieved:6087 but truly199 as the LORD3068 liveth,2416 and as thy soul5315 liveth,2416 there3588 is but a step6587 between996 me and death.4194

4 Then said559 Jonathan3083 unto413 David,1732 Whatsoever4100 thy soul5315 desireth,559 I will even do6213 it for thee.

5 And David1732 said559 unto413 Jonathan,3083 Behold,2009 tomorrow4279 is the new moon,2320 and I595 should not fail to sit3427 3427 with5973 the king4428 at meat:398 but let me go,7971 that I may hide myself5641 in the field7704 unto5704 the third7992 day at even.6153

6 If518 thy father1 at all miss6485 6485 me, then say,559 David1732 earnestly asked7592 7592 leave of4480 me that he might run7323 to Bethlehem1035 his city:5892 for3588 there is a yearly3117 sacrifice2077 there8033 for all3605 the family.4940

7 If518 he say559 thus,3541 It is well;2896 thy servant5650 shall have peace:7965 but if518 he be very wroth,2734 2734 then be sure3045 that3588 evil7451 is determined3615 by4480 5973 him.

8 Therefore thou shalt deal6213 kindly2617 with5921 thy servant;5650 for3588 thou hast brought935 853 thy servant5650 into a covenant1285 of the LORD3068 with5973 thee: notwithstanding, if518 there be3426 in me iniquity,5771 slay4191 me thyself;859 for5704 why4100 shouldest thou bring935 me to thy father?1

9 And Jonathan3083 said,559 Far be it2486 from thee: for3588 if518 I knew certainly3045 3045 that3588 evil7451 were determined3615 by4480 5973 my father1 to come935 upon5921 thee, then would not3808 I tell5046 it thee?

10 Then said559 David1732 to413 Jonathan,3083 Who4310 shall tell5046 me? or176 what4100 if thy father1 answer6030 thee roughly?7186

11 And Jonathan3083 said559 unto413 David,1732 Come,1980 and let us go out3318 into the field.7704 And they went out3318 both8147 of them into the field.7704

12 And Jonathan3083 said559 unto413 David,1732 O LORD3068 God430 of Israel,3478 when3588 I have sounded2713 853 my father1 about tomorrow4279 any time,6256 or the third7992 day, and, behold,2009 if there be good2896 toward413 David,1732 and I then227 send7971 not3808 unto413 thee, and show it thee;1540 853 241

13 The LORD3068 do6213 so3541 and much3541 more3254 to Jonathan:3083 but if3588 it please3190 413 my father1 to do thee853 evil,7451 then I will show it thee,1540 853 241 and send thee away,7971 that thou mayest go1980 in peace:7965 and the LORD3068 be1961 with5973 thee, as834 he hath been1961 with5973 my father.1

14 And thou shalt not3808 only while518 yet5750 I live2416 show6213 5973 me the kindness2617 of the LORD,3068 that I die4191 not: 3808

15 But also thou shalt not3808 cut off3772 853 thy kindness2617 from4480 5973 my house1004 forever:5704 5769 no, not3808 when the LORD3068 hath cut off3772 853 the enemies341 of David1732 every one376 from the face4480 5921 6440 of the earth.127

16 So Jonathan3083 made3772 a covenant with5973 the house1004 of David,1732 saying, Let the LORD3068 even require1245 it at the hand4480 3027 of David's1732 enemies.341

17 And Jonathan3083 caused853 David1732 to swear7650 again,3254 because he loved160 him: for3588 he loved157 him as he loved160 his own soul.5315

18 Then Jonathan3083 said559 to David, Tomorrow4279 is the new moon:2320 and thou shalt be missed,6485 because3588 thy seat4186 will be empty.6485

19 And when thou hast stayed three days,8027 then thou shalt go down3381 quickly,3966 and come935 to413 the place4725 where834 thou didst hide thyself5641 when8033 3117 the business4639 was in hand, and shalt remain3427 by681 the stone68 Ezel.237

20 And I589 will shoot3384 three7969 arrows2671 on the side6654 thereof, as though I shot7971 at a mark.4307

21 And, behold,2009 I will send7971 853 a lad,5288 saying, Go,1980 find out4672 853 the arrows.2671 If518 I expressly say559 559 unto the lad,5288 Behold,2009 the arrows2671 are on this side4480 2008 of thee, take3947 them; then come935 thou: for3588 there is peace7965 to thee, and no369 hurt;1697 as the LORD3068 liveth.2416

22 But if518 I say559 thus3541 unto the young man,5958 Behold,2009 the arrows2671 are beyond4480 1973 thee; go thy way:1980 for3588 the LORD3068 hath sent thee away.7971

23 And as touching the matter1697 which834 thou859 and I589 have spoken1696 of, behold,2009 the LORD3068 be between996 thee and me forever.5704 5769

24 So David1732 hid himself5641 in the field:7704 and when the new moon2320 was come,1961 the king4428 sat him down3427 to eat398 meat.3899

25 And the king4428 sat3427 upon5921 his seat,4186 as at other times,6471 6471 even upon413 a seat4186 by the wall:7023 and Jonathan3083 arose,6965 and Abner74 sat3427 by Saul's7586 side,4480 6654 and David's1732 place4725 was empty.6485

26 Nevertheless Saul7586 spoke1696 not3808 any thing3972 that1931 day:3117 for3588 he thought,559 Something hath befallen4745 him, he1931 is not1115 clean;2889 surely3588 he is not3808 clean.2889

27 And it came to pass1961 on the morrow,4480 4283 which was the second8145 day of the month,2320 that David's1732 place4725 was empty:6485 and Saul7586 said559 unto413 Jonathan3083 his son,1121 Wherefore4069 cometh935 not3808 the son1121 of Jesse3448 to413 meat,3899 neither1571 yesterday,8543 nor1571 today?3117

28 And Jonathan3083 answered6030 853 Saul,7586 David1732 earnestly asked7592 7592 leave of4480 5973 me to go to5704 Bethlehem: 1035

29 And he said,559 Let me go,7971 I pray thee;4994 for3588 our family4940 hath a sacrifice2077 in the city;5892 and my brother,251 he1931 hath commanded6680 me to be there: and now,6258 if518 I have found4672 favor2580 in thine eyes,5869 let me get away,4422 I pray thee,4994 and see7200 853 my brethren.251 Therefore5921 3651 he cometh935 not3808 unto413 the king's4428 table.7979

30 Then Saul's7586 anger639 was kindled2734 against Jonathan,3083 and he said559 unto him, Thou son1121 of the perverse5753 rebellious4780 woman, do not3808 I know3045 that3588 thou859 hast chosen977 the son1121 of Jesse3448 to thine own confusion,1322 and unto the confusion1322 of thy mother's517 nakedness?6172

31 For3588 as long3605 3117 as834 the son1121 of Jesse3448 liveth2416 upon5921 the ground,127 thou859 shalt not3808 be established,3559 nor thy kingdom.4438 Wherefore now6258 send7971 and fetch3947 853 him unto413 me, for3588 he1931 shall surely die.1121 4194

32 And Jonathan3083 answered6030 853 Saul7586 his father,1 and said559 unto413 him, Wherefore4100 shall he be slain?4191 what4100 hath he done?6213

33 And Saul7586 cast2904 853 a javelin2595 at5921 him to smite5221 him: whereby Jonathan3083 knew3045 that3588 it1931 was determined3615 of4480 5973 his father1 to slay4191 853 David.1732

34 So Jonathan3083 arose6965 from4480 5973 the table7979 in fierce2750 anger,639 and did eat398 no3808 meat3899 the second8145 day3117 of the month:2320 for3588 he was grieved6087 for413 David,1732 because3588 his father1 had done him shame.3637

35 And it came to pass1961 in the morning,1242 that Jonathan3083 went out3318 into the field7704 at the time appointed4150 with David,1732 and a little6996 lad5288 with5973 him.

36 And he said559 unto his lad,5288 Run,7323 find out4672 now4994 853 the arrows2671 which834 I595 shoot.3384 And as the lad5288 ran,7323 he1931 shot3384 an arrow2678 beyond5674 him.

37 And when the lad5288 was come935 to5704 the place4725 of the arrow2678 which834 Jonathan3083 had shot,3384 Jonathan3083 cried7121 after310 the lad,5288 and said,559 Is not3808 the arrow2678 beyond4480 1973 thee?

38 And Jonathan3083 cried7121 after310 the lad,5288 Make speed,2363 haste,4120 stay5975 not.408 And Jonathan's3083 lad5288 gathered up3950 853 the arrows,2678 and came935 to413 his master.113

39 But the lad5288 knew3045 not3808 any thing:3972 only389 Jonathan3083 and David1732 knew3045 853 the matter.1697

40 And Jonathan3083 gave5414 853 his artillery3627 unto413 his834 lad,5288 and said559 unto him, Go,1980 carry935 them to the city.5892

41 And as soon as the lad5288 was gone,935 David1732 arose6965 out of a place toward4480 681 the south,5045 and fell5307 on his face639 to the ground,776 and bowed himself7812 three7969 times:6471 and they kissed5401 one376 853 another,7453 and wept1058 one376 with854 another,7453 until5704 David1732 exceeded.1431

42 And Jonathan3083 said559 to David,1732 Go1980 in peace,7965 forasmuch as834 we have sworn7650 both8147 of us587 in the name8034 of the LORD,3068 saying,559 The LORD3068 be1961 between996 me and thee, and between996 my seed2233 and thy seed2233 forever.5704 5769 And he arose6965 and departed:1980 and Jonathan3083 went935 into the city.5892

Chapter 20

1 AND David fled from Jonath, which is in Ramtha, and came and said to Jonathan, What have I done? And what is my offence? And what is my crime before your father that he seeks my life?

2 And Jonathan said to him, God forbid; you shall not die; behold, my father does nothing either great or small which he does not reveal to me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? It is not so.

3 And David swore moreover, and said, It is because your father knows that I have found favor in your eyes; therefore he has said. Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved; but truly as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.

4 Then Jonathan said to David, Whatever you desire, I will do for you.

5 And David said to Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit in the presence of your father to eat; but let me go that I may hide myself in the field until the third day at evening.

6 If your father should miss me, then say to him. David earnestly asked leave of me that he might go to Beth-lehem his city; for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

7 If he says thus, It is well; then your servant shall have peace; but if he is displeased, then be sure that evil is determined by him.

8 Therefore you shall deal kindly with your servant; for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the LORD with you; but if there is folly in me, slay me yourself; why should you bring me to your father?

9 And Jonathan said, God forbid; for if I knew of a certainty that evil were determined by my father to come upon you, then I would come to you and tell you.

10 Then David said to Jonathan, Who shall report to me, if your father answers you roughly?

11 And Jonathan said to David, Come, and let us go out into the field. So they both went out into the field.

12 And Jonathan said to David. The LORD God of Israel be a witness that I will sound my father about this time tomorrow, the third hour; and behold, if he feels good toward you, then I will send to you, and disclose it to you;

13 The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan; but if it please my father to do you harm, then I will disclose it to you, and send you away that you may go in peace; and the LORD be with you as he has been with my father.

14 And if only you will show me the kindness of God while I live, before I die;

15 And also you shall not cut off your kindness from my house for ever, when the LORD destroys the enemies of David from the face of the earth;

16 So Jonathan's house shall flourish with the house of David; and may the LORD take vengeance on David's enemies.

17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

18 Then Jonathan said to him. Tomorrow is the new moon; and you shall be missed, because your seat will be empty.

19 And when at the third hour you will be wanted very much, then you shall come tomorrow to the place where you hid yourself, and you shall sit down beside the same stone.

20 And I will shoot three arrows to the side of it, as though I shot at a mark.

21 And. behold, I will send a lad to go to gather up the arrows. And if I should say to the lad, The arrows are on this side of you, take them and come; then you will know and see that there is peace to you, there is no danger, as the LORD liveth.

22 But if I say thus to the lad, Behold, the arrows are beyond you; then go your way; for the LORD has sent you away.

23 And as for the matter of which you and I have spoken, behold, the LORD is between you and me forever.

24 So David hid himself in the field; and when the new moon came, the king sat down to dine.

25 And the king sat upon his seat by the wall as at other times; and Jonathan went and sat upon a seat, and Abner sat by Saul's side, but David's place was empty.

26 Nevertheless Saul did not say anything that day; for he thought, Something has happened to him, or perhaps he is unclean, or perhaps he has not purified himself.

27 And it came to pass on the morrow, the second day of the new moon, David's place was still empty; and Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why has not the son of Jesse come to eat, either yesterday or today?

28 And Jonathan answered and said to Saul his father, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Beth-lehem;

29 And he said, Let me go, for our family has a sacrifice in the city; and my brother has commanded me to be there; and now, if I have found favor in your eyes, let me get away and see my brothers. That is the reason he has not come to the king's table.

30 Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, O you rebellious son, do I not know that you are delighted in the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?

31 For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Therefore, now I will send and have him brought to me, for he shall surely die.

32 And Jonathan answered and said to Saul his father, Why should he be put to death? What has he done?

33 And Saul lifted up a javelin to smite him; whereby Jonathan knew that his father was determined to slay David.

34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did not eat food the second day of the month; for he was grieved for David, because his father had determined evil against him.

35 And it came to pass in the morning, Jonathan went out into the field to meet David, and a little lad was with him.

36 And he said to his lad, Run, gather up the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.

37 And when the lad came to the place where Jonathan had shot the arrow, Jonathan called after the lad and said, Behold, the arrow is beyond you.

38 And Jonathan called again after the lad, saying, Make haste, quick, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows and brought them to his master.

39 But the lad knew not anything; only Jonathan and David knew the matter.

40 And Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad, and said to him, Go, carry them to the city.

41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose from beside the stone and came to Jonathan and fell on his face to the ground and bowed himself three times; and they kissed each other, and wept over each other; but David wept more.

42 Then Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, inasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and you and between my descendants and your descendants forever. Then Jonathan arose and went into the city.

1 AND David fled from Jonath, which is in Ramtha, and came and said to Jonathan, What have I done? And what is my offence? And what is my crime before your father that he seeks my life?

2 And he said559 unto him, God forbid;2486 thou shalt not3808 die:4191 behold,2009 my father1 will do6213 nothing3808 1697 either great1419 or176 small,6996 but that he will show3808 1540 it853 me:241 and why4069 should my father1 hide5641 853 this2088 thing1697 from4480 me? it2063 is not369 so.

2 And Jonathan said to him, God forbid; you shall not die; behold, my father does nothing either great or small which he does not reveal to me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? It is not so.

3 And David swore moreover, and said, It is because your father knows that I have found favor in your eyes; therefore he has said. Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved; but truly as the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.

4 Then said559 Jonathan3083 unto413 David,1732 Whatsoever4100 thy soul5315 desireth,559 I will even do6213 it for thee.

4 Then Jonathan said to David, Whatever you desire, I will do for you.

5 And David said to Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit in the presence of your father to eat; but let me go that I may hide myself in the field until the third day at evening.

6 If your father should miss me, then say to him. David earnestly asked leave of me that he might go to Beth-lehem his city; for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

7 If518 he say559 thus,3541 It is well;2896 thy servant5650 shall have peace:7965 but if518 he be very wroth,2734 2734 then be sure3045 that3588 evil7451 is determined3615 by4480 5973 him.

7 If he says thus, It is well; then your servant shall have peace; but if he is displeased, then be sure that evil is determined by him.

8 Therefore you shall deal kindly with your servant; for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the LORD with you; but if there is folly in me, slay me yourself; why should you bring me to your father?

9 And Jonathan3083 said,559 Far be it2486 from thee: for3588 if518 I knew certainly3045 3045 that3588 evil7451 were determined3615 by4480 5973 my father1 to come935 upon5921 thee, then would not3808 I tell5046 it thee?

9 And Jonathan said, God forbid; for if I knew of a certainty that evil were determined by my father to come upon you, then I would come to you and tell you.

10 Then said559 David1732 to413 Jonathan,3083 Who4310 shall tell5046 me? or176 what4100 if thy father1 answer6030 thee roughly?7186

10 Then David said to Jonathan, Who shall report to me, if your father answers you roughly?

11 And Jonathan3083 said559 unto413 David,1732 Come,1980 and let us go out3318 into the field.7704 And they went out3318 both8147 of them into the field.7704

11 And Jonathan said to David, Come, and let us go out into the field. So they both went out into the field.

12 And Jonathan said to David. The LORD God of Israel be a witness that I will sound my father about this time tomorrow, the third hour; and behold, if he feels good toward you, then I will send to you, and disclose it to you;

13 The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan; but if it please my father to do you harm, then I will disclose it to you, and send you away that you may go in peace; and the LORD be with you as he has been with my father.

14 And thou shalt not3808 only while518 yet5750 I live2416 show6213 5973 me the kindness2617 of the LORD,3068 that I die4191 not: 3808

14 And if only you will show me the kindness of God while I live, before I die;

15 And also you shall not cut off your kindness from my house for ever, when the LORD destroys the enemies of David from the face of the earth;

16 So Jonathan3083 made3772 a covenant with5973 the house1004 of David,1732 saying, Let the LORD3068 even require1245 it at the hand4480 3027 of David's1732 enemies.341

16 So Jonathan's house shall flourish with the house of David; and may the LORD take vengeance on David's enemies.

17 And Jonathan3083 caused853 David1732 to swear7650 again,3254 because he loved160 him: for3588 he loved157 him as he loved160 his own soul.5315

17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

18 Then Jonathan3083 said559 to David, Tomorrow4279 is the new moon:2320 and thou shalt be missed,6485 because3588 thy seat4186 will be empty.6485

18 Then Jonathan said to him. Tomorrow is the new moon; and you shall be missed, because your seat will be empty.

19 And when at the third hour you will be wanted very much, then you shall come tomorrow to the place where you hid yourself, and you shall sit down beside the same stone.

20 And I589 will shoot3384 three7969 arrows2671 on the side6654 thereof, as though I shot7971 at a mark.4307

20 And I will shoot three arrows to the side of it, as though I shot at a mark.

21 And. behold, I will send a lad to go to gather up the arrows. And if I should say to the lad, The arrows are on this side of you, take them and come; then you will know and see that there is peace to you, there is no danger, as the LORD liveth.

22 But if518 I say559 thus3541 unto the young man,5958 Behold,2009 the arrows2671 are beyond4480 1973 thee; go thy way:1980 for3588 the LORD3068 hath sent thee away.7971

22 But if I say thus to the lad, Behold, the arrows are beyond you; then go your way; for the LORD has sent you away.

23 And as touching the matter1697 which834 thou859 and I589 have spoken1696 of, behold,2009 the LORD3068 be between996 thee and me forever.5704 5769

23 And as for the matter of which you and I have spoken, behold, the LORD is between you and me forever.

24 So David1732 hid himself5641 in the field:7704 and when the new moon2320 was come,1961 the king4428 sat him down3427 to eat398 meat.3899

24 So David hid himself in the field; and when the new moon came, the king sat down to dine.

25 And the king sat upon his seat by the wall as at other times; and Jonathan went and sat upon a seat, and Abner sat by Saul's side, but David's place was empty.

26 Nevertheless Saul7586 spoke1696 not3808 any thing3972 that1931 day:3117 for3588 he thought,559 Something hath befallen4745 him, he1931 is not1115 clean;2889 surely3588 he is not3808 clean.2889

26 Nevertheless Saul did not say anything that day; for he thought, Something has happened to him, or perhaps he is unclean, or perhaps he has not purified himself.

27 And it came to pass on the morrow, the second day of the new moon, David's place was still empty; and Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why has not the son of Jesse come to eat, either yesterday or today?

28 And Jonathan3083 answered6030 853 Saul,7586 David1732 earnestly asked7592 7592 leave of4480 5973 me to go to5704 Bethlehem: 1035

28 And Jonathan answered and said to Saul his father, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Beth-lehem;

29 And he said, Let me go, for our family has a sacrifice in the city; and my brother has commanded me to be there; and now, if I have found favor in your eyes, let me get away and see my brothers. That is the reason he has not come to the king's table.

30 Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, O you rebellious son, do I not know that you are delighted in the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?

31 For3588 as long3605 3117 as834 the son1121 of Jesse3448 liveth2416 upon5921 the ground,127 thou859 shalt not3808 be established,3559 nor thy kingdom.4438 Wherefore now6258 send7971 and fetch3947 853 him unto413 me, for3588 he1931 shall surely die.1121 4194

31 For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Therefore, now I will send and have him brought to me, for he shall surely die.

32 And Jonathan3083 answered6030 853 Saul7586 his father,1 and said559 unto413 him, Wherefore4100 shall he be slain?4191 what4100 hath he done?6213

32 And Jonathan answered and said to Saul his father, Why should he be put to death? What has he done?

33 And Saul7586 cast2904 853 a javelin2595 at5921 him to smite5221 him: whereby Jonathan3083 knew3045 that3588 it1931 was determined3615 of4480 5973 his father1 to slay4191 853 David.1732

33 And Saul lifted up a javelin to smite him; whereby Jonathan knew that his father was determined to slay David.

34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did not eat food the second day of the month; for he was grieved for David, because his father had determined evil against him.

35 And it came to pass1961 in the morning,1242 that Jonathan3083 went out3318 into the field7704 at the time appointed4150 with David,1732 and a little6996 lad5288 with5973 him.

35 And it came to pass in the morning, Jonathan went out into the field to meet David, and a little lad was with him.

36 And he said559 unto his lad,5288 Run,7323 find out4672 now4994 853 the arrows2671 which834 I595 shoot.3384 And as the lad5288 ran,7323 he1931 shot3384 an arrow2678 beyond5674 him.

36 And he said to his lad, Run, gather up the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.

37 And when the lad came to the place where Jonathan had shot the arrow, Jonathan called after the lad and said, Behold, the arrow is beyond you.

38 And Jonathan3083 cried7121 after310 the lad,5288 Make speed,2363 haste,4120 stay5975 not.408 And Jonathan's3083 lad5288 gathered up3950 853 the arrows,2678 and came935 to413 his master.113

38 And Jonathan called again after the lad, saying, Make haste, quick, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows and brought them to his master.

39 But the lad5288 knew3045 not3808 any thing:3972 only389 Jonathan3083 and David1732 knew3045 853 the matter.1697

39 But the lad knew not anything; only Jonathan and David knew the matter.

40 And Jonathan3083 gave5414 853 his artillery3627 unto413 his834 lad,5288 and said559 unto him, Go,1980 carry935 them to the city.5892

40 And Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad, and said to him, Go, carry them to the city.

41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose from beside the stone and came to Jonathan and fell on his face to the ground and bowed himself three times; and they kissed each other, and wept over each other; but David wept more.

42 Then Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, inasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and you and between my descendants and your descendants forever. Then Jonathan arose and went into the city.
